Ladysmith is a growing community (population 8,177 in 2015 estimate) located just 88 km (55 miles) north of Victoria and 23 km (14 miles) south of Nanaimo.

Colonization altered that and currently vehicles known as reconciliation and treaty agreements provide First Nations with their only choices in protecting their interests.
