Nestled on the eastern shores of spectacular Vancouver Island, the Town of Ladysmith features all the warmth and charm of small town living with a full range of services and amenities. Ladysmith is a growing community (population 8,177 in 2015 estimate) located just 88 km (55 miles) north of Victoria and 23 km (14 miles) south of Nanaimo.

A 2003 National Communities In Bloom award winner, Ladysmith offers world-class outdoor recreational opportunities; a renowned trail system through picturesque forests; first-class shopping and dining in the historic downtown area; and fun-filled waterfront activities at pristine Transfer Beach.

Ladysmith boasts a diverse population - according to the 2011 Census, some 1,065 (13.5%) of its residents are immigrants, 1,130 (14%) residents are first generation Canadians, and another 1,865 consider themselves to be second generation Canadians. 5% of Ladysmith residents are visible minorities.

Ladysmith is situated on the 49th Parallel in the beautiful Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. Tucked in at the base of hillsides and fronted by the beautiful Ladysmith Harbour, our turn-of-the century town is a highly sought-after place to live, work and play.

Sep 11, 2023 · For thousands of years prior to colonization, SFN has been living on parts of Vancouver Island and the main land and one of those areas is known as Ladysmith Harbour. Colonization altered that and currently vehicles known as reconciliation and treaty agreements provide First Nations with their only choices in protecting their interests.
