Major-General Robert Ross (1766 – 12 September 1814) was an Irish officer in the British Army who served in the Napoleonic Wars and its theatre in North America in the War of 1812. Ross joined the British Army in 1789.

A veteran of the Napoleonic Wars, Major General Robert Ross arrived in America in August 1814 to command the British forces. Ross quickly led his men to victory at the Battle of Bladensburg and proceeded to capture Washington and oversee the burning of its public buildings.

Major General Robert Ross is mortally wounded by a shot fired by one of the First Baltimore Sharp Shooters, as the British 85th Regiment emerges from the woods. The American militia then pulled back to the main lines where the battle of North Point would begin shortly after.
