Shootings in the NYPD's 24th Precinct, which covers the northern end of the Upper West Side, are relatively rare, according to police data. Last year through Dec. 29, the precinct had four shootings, down from six in the same period in 2023.

An investigation is underway as two people were shot on the Upper West Side Sunday evening, according to the NYPD. The incident happened around 7:43 p.m. Police say the shooting happened at a convenience store at 653 Amsterdam Avenue between West 91st and West 92nd Streets.
