Strong thunderstorms are expected to start firing up in the early evening Wednesday. And some storms could dump 2 to 3 inches of rain in one hour, forecasters say.

On Wednesday at 2:04 p.m. a severe thunderstorm watch was issued by the NWS Blacksburg VA in effect until 10 p.m. The watch is for Alleghany, Ashe, Caswell, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes and Yadkin counties.
