ESPN is going to the bullpen and calling for Monday Night Football play-by-play voice Joe Buck to broadcast the season opening game for the New York Yankees.

Joe Buck, the voice of ESPN’s Monday Night Football and veteran of 24 World Series, will call his first national Major League Baseball game since the 2021 World Series on Thursday, March 27.

Joe Buck will call a Major League Baseball national telecast for the first time since 2021 when he provides play-by-play of the Opening Day game between the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees on ESPN.

A few weeks ago, (ESPN senior VP of production) Mark Gross called Buck to ask if he would do Opening Day. Buck was intrigued. When Gross said the game is at Yankee Stadium, Buck was fully sold, even though he had expressed reluctance to return to baseball — which he doesn’t follow as closely — since leaving Fox.

Joe Buck is coming back to baseball. Well, at least for one day. The Athletic reported on Tuesday morning that Buck will call the Baltimore Orioles-New York Yankees Opening Day game on ESPN on March 27.

Buck has called a variety of the MLB's biggest moments such as Mark McGwire's 62nd home run to break Roger Maris' record.
