NWS meteorologist Clay Anderson said, typically, the month of August is roughly 10 degrees lower than what New Mexico has experienced this year. Thunderstorms and rain from the monsoon season that usually help keep the heat down have been "relatively unproductive," Anderson said.

This stretch of hot weather will continue into this upcoming weekend. Isolated afternoon storms will be possible through the weekend as well, but will bring very little rainfall. Once again it’s another very hot day across New Mexico.

Parts of the Inland Empire and the valleys are expected to have triple-digit temperatures as the heat wave continues in Southern California on Thursday.
