Though Nintendo has a history of discontinuing its older consoles without missing a beat, there's reason to believe this won't happen with the Switch.

Even before Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 in all its glory, one of the few confirmed things we knew was that it'd be backwards compatible with existing Switch games, and the company has now stated that this decision was made since it was "the best direction" for consumers.

Nintendo has also announced a series of global events, the "Nintendo Switch 2 Experience".

The Nintendo Switch 2 will reportedly be backwards compatible with most Nintendo Switch 1 games, save for a certain few games players can expect.
