South Sudanese authorities say that eight men deported from the United States are now in government custody in the African country.

Eight migrants lost their last-ditch effort to halt their deportation to South Sudan by the Trump administration on Friday, clearing the way for their imminent transfer after a judge in Massachusetts denied their request.

The US Department of State advises American citizens to avoid South Sudan due to an ongoing armed conflict. It has in the past accused South Sudan of “extrajudicial killings, forced disappearances, torture and cases of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment or punishment”.
