Florida is bracing for “unsurvivable” storm surge from Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm. In the afternoon, Helene was accelerating toward Florida’s Big Bend, bringing tropical storm conditions across most of the state’s western coast.

Hurricane Helene is now an “extremely dangerous" Category 4 hurricane, as it moves up Florida's Gulf Coast towards the state's Big Bend region.

Hurricane Helene is closing in on Florida with landfall expected in the Big Bend area Thursday. As of 10 p.m., Helene is moving toward the north-northeast at 24 mph. A continued fast motion to the north-northeast is expected through landfall in the Florida Big Bend in a few hours.
