Chennai rains today: The India Meteorological Department has issued alert of heavy rainfall in several Tamil Nadu districts for today, Friday, November 15. The state has been receiving heavy rainfall over the past few days due to an active weather system over the Bay of Bengal.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has issued a yellow alert from Tuesday, November 12, to November 15, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Chennai and 15 other districts of Tamil Nadu. A low-pressure system formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal on Monday is expected to bring these rains,

It continued raining in Chennai the entire night. Adyar, Meenambakkam, and Nandanam received 6 cm overnight. Wednesday was expected to be isolated heavy rainfall in a few places with conditions likely to ease out on Thursday. In view of this precautionary measure, schools were shut down in Perambalur, Ariyalur and Cuddalore districts.

The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and south Interior Karnataka due to a low-pressure system over the southwest Bay of Bengal, expected to last until November 16.

Initially, Chennai officials indicated that schools would operate as usual; however, the decision was reversed within 30 minutes due to the intensity of the rainfall and the forecast for showers.
