An Ashland woman who was attacked by a shark last summer in Florida is making a remarkable recovery. Elisabeth Foley lost her hand in an attack in Walton County, Florida, in June. She was one of three people bitten within the span of 90 minutes.

Two months after losing a part of his right leg to a shark bite, Kenji Nonaka is grateful to finally be back surfing again.

Kenji Nonaka was surfing on the north central side of Maui when a shark attacked his right leg, sending him to the hospital and on a road to recovery. But through it all, Nonaka was determined to return to the ocean.

I love surfing, I want to go back surfing,” said 61-year-old Kenji Nonaka after surviving a shark attack while surfing in Waiehu. After two months, Kenji finally fulfilled his wishes, returning to the water after a lengthy recovery.
