The Treasury Department announced a deal with G-7 allies that will exclude US companies from some taxes imposed by other countries in exchange for removing the Section 899 “revenge tax” proposal from President Donald Trump’s tax bill.

Republicans are weighing whether to pull the controversial tax provision as it nears a deal with European nations and other countries on an alternative.

Section 899 — would allow the federal government to impose taxes on companies with foreign owners as well as investors from countries judged as charging “unfair foreign taxes” on U.S. companies.
