Jurors in the retrial of Karen Read on Monday heard a spate of sexist messages the lead investigator of the case sent his friends, after the judge ruled to allow the since-fired Massachusetts State Police trooper’s texts into evidence.

The judge in the Karen Read trial will allow into evidence damaging text messages from the fired lead investigator, Michael Proctor, who worked for the Massachusetts State Police. Judge Beverly Cannone made the ruling Monday morning before jurors entered the courtroom over the objections of Norfolk County prosecutors.

The Karen Read trial is now in the hands of the defense, which is set to call its first witness today. The prosecution rested its case in the high-profile Massachusetts murder trial on Thursday after weeks of testimony from 38 witnesses.
