Patrick Kane is dealing with an upper body injury, and the Detroit Red Wings hope Vladimir Tarasenko can ameliorate that loss.

The Red Wings are struggling for offense these days and the team didn't get news Thursday that'll necessarily help that matter.

Patrick Kane scored on a power play in overtime to lift the Wings past the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, kicking off a four-game stand at Little Caesars Arena with a 3-2 victory. The Wings (18-18-4) won their fifth straight game and reached 40 points, but the Senators remained a point ahead at 41.

Patrick Kane of the Detroit Red Wings further cemented his status as one of the game's all-time greats with a career milestone point. With a goal and an assist in the first period of Sunday's game against the Washington Capitals, Kane reached 1,300 career points.

Dominik Shine had accepted this day might not be in the cards. There was a point last season, after the birth of his first child, that Shine had even thought about hanging up his skates — thinking about the demanding travel schedule of the American Hockey League and how much he would be away from his family.

With Patrick Kane landing on injured reserve, the Wings needed a forward for Monday night’s game. Shine’s trip to Perani’s would have to wait.
