The U.S. Senate has approved a resolution intended to hold Steward Health Care CEO Ralph de la Torre in criminal contempt for failing to testify before a Senate panel.

Ralph de la Torre, who may now face prison time, is the first person in more than 50 years to be held in criminal contempt by the Senate, lawmakers said.

The vote starts a process in which the full senate and the U.S. attorney must also decide to press charges. It’s possible that a conviction could land de la Torre a prison sentence.
