Steve Wilks is finalizing a deal to take over New York’s defense, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. He had an interview lined up for today, so that meeting has obviously gone well. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler adds a contract will be signed tomorrow. This will mark a return to coaching after Wilks was out of the league in 2024.

Aaron Glenn is starting to fill out his coaching staff and is bringing Steve Heiden from Detroit to be the Jets' offensive line coach, according to a report from NFL Media's Tom Pelissero. Heiden, 48, has 12 years of coaching experience in the NFL and spent the past two seasons with the Lions as a tight ends coach.

Wilks, who replaces Jeff Ulbrich as the Jets’ defensive coordinator, also has head coaching experience. He was Arizona’s coach in 2018 and was fired after the Cardinals finished 3-13. Wilks also was Carolina’s interim coach when he replaced the fired Matt Rhule in 2022 and went 6-6 with the Panthers.
