Former Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer, who was in Atlanta on Monday to watch Ohio State win the national championship, came to the defense of current Buckeyes coach Ryan Day.

The Ohio State Buckeyes claimed their ninth national championship in program history after beating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 34-23 on Monday night. However, they still had a few major blemishes during the season. The first was losing to their bitter rivals, the Michigan Wolverines, 13-10 and the second was not winning the Big Ten.

The Ohio State coach was an assistant under Meyer with the Buckeyes as well as the Florida Gators. Meyer was thrilled to see his former assistant lead Ohio State to another national title. The win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish marked Ohio State's ninth national championship .

Meyer becomes the eighth coach from Ohio State to be voted into the College Football Hall of Fame joining other Buckeye greats Howard Jones (1910), John Wilce (1913-28), Francis Schmidt (1934-40), Woody Hayes (1951-78), Earle Bruce (1979-87), John Cooper (1988-2000) and Jim Tressel (2001-10).
