The Houston Rockets appear unwilling to trade for Sacramento Kings point guard De'Aaron Fox, a stance that could haunt them for years to come.
According to NBA insider Vincent Goodwill of Yahoo Sports, De’Aaron Fox is open to the Sacramento Kings trading him to the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat or Houston Rockets. The Kings are expected to open up talks to potentially trade Fox.
These three teams are rising contenders in need of a star point guard and have the kinds of assets that the Kings would be interested in.
A deep field of All-Star contenders meant there were a bunch of players that felt snubbed by Thursday’s announcement of reserves.
While Fox is likely to sign an extension with the Spurs if he’s traded there, other inquiring teams are likely viewing him as a rental (he’s under contract through 2025/26), and the Kings will have to evaluate those offers as such.
That is supported by Yahoo’s Kevin O’Connor, who wrote that the Heat have “lowered their asking price for Butler because they’re tired of his act”. “And they’d like to get something in return instead of letting him walk in free agency for nothing,” he added.
