Canadian retail sales grew by 0.8% in March from February, more than analysts had forecast, and looked set to have increased by 0.5% in April, Statistics Canada data indicated on Friday. The largest increase was the 4.

Retail sales in the UK increased 5% in April over the same month in the previous year.  Retail sales jumped 1.2% M/M in April 2025, easily beating forecasts of a 0.2% rise and accelerating from a downwardly revised 0.

ONS senior statistician Hannah Finselbach said: “Sunny skies and warm temperatures helped boost retail sales in April with strong trading across most sectors. “After a poor couple of months, food sales bounced back with supermarkets reporting robust sales, while it was also a positive month for butchers and bakers, alcohol and tobacco stores.
