Eleven candidates are vying to win the Democratic primary for mayor in New York City, the second time that ranked-choice voting will be used in the mayor’s race. Polls have shown former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo and Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani as the two front-runners. The incumbent, Eric Adams, will run as an independent in November.

New York City Democrats are deciding whether to give Andrew Cuomo another shot, boost upstart Zohran Mamdani or give a potentially less-polarizing candidate a chance in the party’s mayoral primary on Tuesday.

In order to vote in the primary, you must be registered as either a Democrat or Republican. The Democratic ballot includes citywide elections for public advocate and comptroller. Some districts will also vote for borough president, City Council, district attorney, supreme court and civil judges.
