Bargaining teams from Maui Health/Kaiser Permanente and United Nurses and Health Care Employees of Hawaii representing more than 900 workers on Maui and Lānaʻi have come to an agreement on a historic new contract that was ratified this week by union members.

Maui Health nurses secure a new 4-year contract with pay raises up to 100%. The deal is retroactive from October 2023 to September 2028 for 900 employees.

Members of the United Nurses and Health Care Employees of Hawaii have overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new four year contract with Maui Health/Kaiser Permanente, avoiding a second strike. The ratification of the contract comes just days after nurses on Oahu and Kauai authorize their own strikes,

United Nurses and Health Care Employees of Hawaii nurses and healthcare workers overwhelmingly voted to ratify a new four-year contract with Maui Health/Kaiser Permanente.

Union workers and Maui Health have reached an agreement that members of the bargaining team are calling “historic” and say should avoid further strikes after hundreds of health care workers walked off the job for three days in November.

Raises total anywhere from 21 to nearly 100% over the life of the agreement for the 900 employees of Maui Health System who work on the Valley Isle and Lanai. All units received raises, which the bargaining team for the nurses says was important.
