‘Tis the season of reboots, and Disney+ is the latest streamer to hop on the trend. As anticipation around HBO’s Harry Potter series reboot (and its high-profile casting) grows, Disney+ is also tapping into the nostalgia by ordering a pilot for a gender-swapped reboot of Holes.

A “ Holes ” TV series has been ordered to pilot at Disney+, Variety has learned exclusively. The potential show would be based on the book of the same name by Louis Sachar, which was previously adapted into a 2003 feature film by Walt Disney Pictures.

As reported by Variety on Tuesday, January 7, Disney+ is giving the iconic Holes a modern twist, swapping its unlucky hero Stanley Yelnats for a teenage girl in a fresh reimagining of Louis Sachar's beloved book.

Disney+ has officially commissioned a pilot for a television adaptation of “Holes”, Variety has exclusively reported.

A Holes TV series is officially in the works at Disney+, based on the 2003 Disney movie and the book of the same name by Louis Sachar. Alina Mankin serves as writer and executive producer, while Liz Phang will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Holes is getting rebooted over at Disney, with a new series moving forward, based on the 1998 book from Louis Sachar. The book also saw a movie premiere five years later, created by Walt Disney Pictures.
