Prosecutors say the death toll in the attack on a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg last month has risen to six as a woman succumbed to her injuries.

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said on Wednesday that he welcomed equal, dignified, healthy and orderly exchanges with China, but wondered whether there was goodwill from Beijing given what he said was their blocking of simple things like tourism.

The suspect in the car-ramming incident at a Christmas market in the German city of Magdeburg had appeared in seven investigative proceedings in the two years prior to the attack, Germany's Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper reported on Saturday.

The Berlin Borough police chief said they would have acted on the warning from Germany if they'd been aware of it.

The suspect, a 50-year-old doctor from Saudi Arabia who has lived in Germany for decades, is “clearly Islamophobic,” the German interior minister said. Police have yet to determine a motive.
