Liverpool players and fans have paid an emotional tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, at the first competitive match at Anfield since their death last month.

Anfield is a special place, and the emotions were overflowing on Friday as Liverpool played its first Premier League match since the car accident that claimed the lives of Reds forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

Mohamed Salah wiped away tears as he listened to Liverpool fans sing songs in tribute to Diogo Jota after the team’s victory over Bournemouth at Anfield. Liverpool won 4-2 in the opening match of the Premier League season, with goals from Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo, Federico Chiesa and Salah getting their title defence off to a winning start.
