The Apple TV+ workplace drama deepens the lore, explores the Innie-Outie conundrum, and fully establishes itself as the series to beat right now.

It's not often that overwhelming success leads to delays, but that was at least partially the case when it came to "Severance" Season 2. Delays caused by the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes certainly contributed to the Apple TV+ award-winning drama's almost three year gap between seasons.

Apple TV’s Severance is back at Lumon Industries after a three-year wait and a thrilling Season One finale. The second season of the workplace sci-fi series, which stars Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and Patricia Arquette, premieres this week on Apple TV+.

Helly takes the stage and speaks about the horrors the Innies are enduring to a crowd of stunned watchers, Irving decides to bang on Burt’s door anyway, and Mark discovers his dead wife, Gemma, is actually Ms Casey, rushing and screaming to his sister “She’s alive”... just as the connection is lost.

Fortunately, “Severance” returns to Apple TV+ on Friday, and its makers seem to have used every second of the absence productively. The season takes new turns while remaining the most ambitious, batty and all-out pleasurable show on TV, an M.C. Escher maze whose plot convolutions never get in the way of its voice, heart and sense of humor.

As compelling as the Severance TV series is, it seems as though one of the show's main stars hasn't even watched it yet.

After a three year sabbatical, the severed workers of Lumon Industries are returning for Season 2. Directed by Ben Stiller, the dystopian thriller premieres with two new episodes this Friday, Jan. 17 on Apple TV+.

While “Severance” has a wonderfully creepy-compelling premise, it’s a concept better suited to a movie than a multi-episode TV series.
