At Christmas, the Detroit Red Wings hadn't been on a seven-game winning streak in over a decade. A month and change later, the Red Wings have been on two seven-game heaters in the new year. To Detroit's credit, the two streaks have stemmed from different sources, reflecting the team's ability to win in different ways.

The Red Wings just put together their second seven-game winning streak under new head coach Todd McLellan. "Obviously, I'm not sure any of us thought we'd be in this position," Patrick Kane said. "You gotta give Todd a lot of credit too.

The Red Wings (27-21-5, 59 points) are getting contributions up and down the lineup, from their top players to young players, during a 14-4-1 run under McLellan that’s propelled them into the top wild card position in the Eastern Conference.

Todd McLellan faced a lot of hurdles as the first Detroit Red Wings coach to join the team midseason in more than 40 years on Dec. 26.
