A man who brutally stabbed someone to death in Stockton in 2021 has been convicted of first-degree murder and other crimes, the San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office said.

A Slidell man is accused of breaking into a home early Tuesday and attacking a woman who was inside sleeping, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office said. The woman, who was cut and stabbed, was brought to an area hospital, where she was treated and released, authorities said.

A Sept. 5 house break-in a Harbour Watch subdivision was referenced on more than one occasion at the Sept. 9 Mount Pleasant Town Council meeting, as citizens called for local government to pour more resources into public safety.

York Regional Police say Abdul Aleem Farooqi was fatally shot after confronting home invaders. Political leaders and family friends had previously told Farooqi had been shot and killed in his home in front of his children.

He was booked into the Washoe County Jail and charged with 2nd degree kidnapping, robbery with a deadly weapon, grand theft auto, false imprisonment, burglary with a deadly weapon, and battery with a deadly weapon. The investigation found the suspect entered the victim’s home through an open garage door.
