It appeared as though Team USA was going to slide into the men’s hockey semi-finals at the Winter Olympics, but Sweden had other plans — giving us a lesson in why you can never assume victory in hockey.

The Olympic men's hockey quarterfinals were dramatic with the USA, Canada and Finland winning in overtime. Slovakia also advanced.

Jack Hughes and Connor Hellebuyck have ended Team USA's 46-year gold medal drought. Hughes scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Canada to lift the Americans to their first gold medal since 1980.
