Atlanta weathered its second winter storm of the season on Tuesday, seeing about an inch of snow across the metro.

An unusual winter storm swept through the Deep South on Tuesday, bringing significant and even once-in-a-lifetime snowfall to unexpected areas.

The winter storm brought up to about 2 inches of snow over parts of north Georgia and areas south of Interstate 20. “There was a sharp cut off in accumulating snow basically right along and near I-85 with not much, as expected, over areas north and west of Atlanta,” Meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Due to Tuesday's winter weather, Georgia's Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has 350 total delays and 277 total cancelations as of Wednesday morning. The 350 delays include any flights within, into, or out of the airport. The total cancelations include 112 out of Atlanta and 158 into Atlanta.

School districts across metro Atlanta and South Georgia have started announcing cancellations, delays and digital learning days after the previously issued winter weather watch was upgraded to a winter weather advisory.

The First Alert Weather Team says the temperatures are below freezing across much of the area as rain continues to transition into a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow across southern Georgia.

The National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning at 10:38 p.m. EST on Tuesday valid from Wednesday 7 a.m. EST until Thursday 1 a.m. EST for Leelanau, Benzie and Manistee counties.

The First Alert Weather Team says heavy snow has impacted much of the Deep South through Tuesday from New Orleans to Pensacola.
