The Green Bay Packers reached across the border for unconventional quarterback insurance on Monday, signing Taylor Elgersma, a Canadian prospect who only began playing football in 10th grade, after the undrafted 23-year-old participated in the team's rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

The Green Bay Packers signed QB Taylor Elgersma and released G Marquis Hayes. The transactions were announced Monday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

The Buffalo Bills planned on having Elgersma participate in their rookie minicamp over the weekend, but he stayed in Green Bay instead. Elgersma joins a Packers quarterback room with Jordan Love, Malik Willis, and Sean Clifford.
