Google's AI chatbot could be the secret sauce to making smartwatches exciting again.
A Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro user on X recently reported seeing a new option to select Gemini as the default voice assistant when connected to a device running One UI 8. Once enabled, this option allows users to summon Gemini on the earbuds using the “Hey Google” hotword when connected to an unlocked device.
Gemini AI on Galaxy Watch 8 can summarise messages, create replies, handle voice commands, translate phrases, and show health summaries. It can’t write long emails or control all apps yet.
Samsung just announced the Galaxy Watch 8 and the Watch 8 Classic. These smartwatches feature an antioxidant sensor and a thinner form factor.
Google also announced that, starting with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, you’ll be able to long-press the power button and have Gemini take a gander at your screen while you’re scrolling. With live access to what you’re looking at, you can ask Gemini for help on stuff like product comparisons. Per Google:
Gemini Live now works with a few Samsung apps, allowing users to perform actions within Samsung Calendar, Notes, and Reminder apps mid-conversation.
