CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox optioned struggling first baseman Andrew Vaughn to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday. The team also optioned infielder Tim Elko to the minor league club and reinstated outfielders Andrew Benintendi and Mike Tauchman from the 10-day injured list prior to the game against the Texas Rangers.
Vaughn was batting only .189, while Elko had only five hits in his first 32 plate appearances as a major-leaguer. The Sox won their first game without the two — a 4-1 victory over the Rangers on Friday night at Rate Field.
