Surrounded by supporters on a chilly Tuesday morning, Monique Worrell climbed the steps of the Orange County courthouse complex where she had spoken after the governor suspended her in August 2023 as Orange-Osceola state attorney — only this time she was returning newly reelected.

Gov. Ron DeSantis removed Monique Worrell from office citing a leniency toward crime. She was once again sworn in Tuesday morning.

Monique Worrell was officially sworn in as Orange-Osceola state attorney for Florida’s Ninth Judicial Circuit in front of a crowd of supporters and her team of prosecutors on Tuesday morning.

After being removed by DeSantis in 2023, Worrell won her re-election campaign in 2024, and is now back in office. “And I think that massive support that we saw in the recent election was a sign that the people of this community will not cede their power that way,” Florida A&M Law Professor Mark Dorosin said.

To the Assistant State Attorneys and staff, I will do everything in my power to bring stability back to this office.'
