Marianne Faithfull, an icon of British rock in the 1960s whose career went on to stretch seven decades, is dead at 78. Faithfull died “peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family,” a spokesperson told the BBC.

Singer Marianne Faithfull, who famously dated Mick Jagger and rebooted her career after it was nearly derailed by drug addiction, has died.

A fresh-voiced singer and Mick Jagger’s muse in the 1960s, she went on to experience more than her share of hard times before emerging triumphant.

Marianne Faithfull, the songstress who helped spur music's British invasion and was a muse to the Rolling Stones, died Thursday at 78.

Singer, song writer and actress Marianne Faithfull has died, her spokesperson confirmed to CNN Thursday. “It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of the singer, songwriter and actress Marianne Faithfull. Marianne passed away peacefully in London today, in the company of her loving family. She will be dearly missed,” the statement said.

Faithfull acted alongside Orson Welles, Oliver Reed, Alain Delon and Anna Karina during her time in Hollywood.

Faithfull, who famously dated Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger in the 1960s, was nominated for a Grammy for her celebrated seventh album, "Broken English."
