The Miami Hurricanes, who had college football's top offense, but were often doomed by poor defensive play, fired defensive coordinator Lance Guidry, coach Mario Cristobal announced Tuesday.

In a continuous effort to always improve all aspects of our program, I have decided to make a change on defense,’ Mario Cristobal said.

Miami parted ways with defensive coordinator Lance Guidry on Tuesday, after the Hurricanes failed to make the College Football Playoff and allowed 42 points in each of their final two games of the season.

The Hurricanes made a key change on Tuesday, firing defensive coordinator Lance Guidry after two seasons running Miami’s defense. UM’s defense struggled, especially in conference play, and those struggles wound up keeping the Hurricanes out of the ACC title game and the College Football Playoff.
