DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks hired Ethan Casson in a new role as president Tuesday, giving CEO Rick Welts someone to handle daily operations on the business side while he focuses on the franchise’s plans for a new arena.

The Mavericks on Tuesday named Casson, 51, as team president. Casson will report to CEO Rick Welts and oversee most of the day-to-day business operations.

The Mavericks have hired former Timberwolves CEO Ethan Casson as their team president, freeing up current Mavs CEO Rick Welts to zero in on a new arena and creating one of the more symbiotic front offices in the NBA.
