A Vermont federal judge has ordered the release of a Columbia University student arrested by federal agents during an interview on his U.S. citizenship.

The judge said Mahdawi can go back to his home in Vermont and continue attending classes at Columbia University, where he's supposed to graduate this spring.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders and others from Vermont's congressional delegation labeled the detention "immoral, inhumane, and illegal."
