BOSTON — Red Sox No. 2 prospect Marcelo Mayer will make his MLB debut in Game 2 of Boston’s doubleheader against the Orioles on Saturday. Mayer is batting sixth and playing third base. First pitch between the Red Sox and Orioles is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
After Duran touched home plate and the television cameras panned around rain-soaked Fenway Park to find celebrating fans, one dancing fan appeared with a jug of milk in his hand. Maybe the first clue should’ve been his Indianapolis 500 T-shirt, in a shade of green to match the Red Sox’s City Connect jerseys.
Over time, Saturday could be remembered as the day the Red Sox called up star prospect Marcelo Mayer from the minors. But the Sox still had business to take of as Mayer made his way from Worcester to Boston for the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Orioles.
