GOVE COUNTY —Spring storms brought hail, heavy rain, damaging winds and numerous tornadoes to portions of Kansas on Sunday. The National Weather issued tornado warnings in Cheyenne, Scott, Logan, Gove, Edwards, Pawnee, Kiowa, Stafford, Pratt and Reno Counties on Sunday.

A tornado warning and widespread severe weather alert have been issued for the Plains and Midwest, with isolated tornadoes expected to hit several states.
The NWS confirmed a tornado struck southwest of Arnett. Residents were warned to take shelter. The agency said "risk for tornadoes and extremely large (3+) inch hail continues north and east of Harmon." Tornado warnings also have been issued for the towns of Sharon and Harmon until 7 p.m. May 18.
Storms capable of producing hail the size of baseballs were expected to continue on Monday. Widespread damage was reported on Sunday.
The storm was the latest severe weather to cause deaths and widespread damage in Kentucky. Two months ago, at least 24 people died in a round of storms that swelled creeks and submerged roads. Hundreds of people were rescued, and most of the deaths were caused by vehicles getting stuck in high water.
At least 9 million people in the nation's upper Midwest region are under red flag warnings on Monday, including residents of Minnesota, where a wildfire was already burning out of control in the largest national forest east of the Mississippi River.
A strong storm system coming out of the Great Plains brought severe thunderstorms to the Midwest on Thursday, including a reported tornado that swept through a small Wisconsin city, damaging businesses and homes, forcing road closures and downing power lines, the authorities said.
